- abănat - An old, regional, or archaic medical term previously used in Romanian rural areas to describe a state of bewilderment, severe dizziness, mental confusion, or altered consciousness (stupor). In early psychiatric semiology, the word qualified patients presenting an absent behavior, fixed stare, and pronounced psychomotor slowing, symptoms typical of post-ictal epileptic states, toxic encephalopathies, or catatonic episodes.
