In neurophysiology, it can refer to collateral neural pathways (shunts) that divert nerve impulses from their main path during central lesions, or an orthopedic device designed to correct the deviating axis of a limb affected by spasticity.
- abera - To deviate from normal mental, cognitive, or behavioral manifestations; to express delusional, incoherent, or clinically illogical ideas during a psychotic episode, acute febrile state, or delirium. In early semiology, the term described the wandering of the mind or the deviation of an organ from its natural anatomical function or trajectory.
- aberare - The act of aberrating; the process of moving away, wandering, or deviating from a straight line, a scientific truth, a logical rule, or a moral norm. Figuratively and in daily language, it represents uttering absurd statements devoid of logic or real basis.
