- Abelia - A genus of ornamental flowering shrubs in the family Caprifoliaceae, native to East Asia and Mexico. In pharmaceutical botany, toxicology, and neuropsychiatry, extracts from Abelia species are studied for their content of biologically active secondary metabolites (iridoid glucosides, polyphenols). These compounds display antioxidant and neuroprotective therapeutic potential, being clinically investigated in experimental models to reduce oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases or alleviate neurosomatic anxiety symptoms.
